STRUCTURE
The Board of Proprietors
The School is owned by a Board of Proprietors, a Charitable Trust who are made up from representatives of the following organizations:
- The Vicar of St Mark's Parish or nominee.
- 1 representative of St Mark's Church Vestry.
- 1 representative of the Committee of the St Mark's School Parents' Association.
- 3 representatives elected by the St Mark's School Parents' Association.
- 4 members elected by the School Board, one of whom may be the Principal of the School.
The Board of Proprietors has responsibility to maintain the Special Character of the School, as set out in the Integration Deed, and is responsible for rebuilding programmes, servicing of loans, and maintenance of property.
The Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible under the Education Act for the overall governance of the school, including through the Charter, the establishment of goals and policies, employment of staff, support of the Principal's management role, and the ongoing maintenance of school property.
Elections of representatives are required every three years and comprise of the following representatives:
- 5 members elected for three years by the parents of the School
- 4 members representing the Proprietors
- 1 staff representative elected by the School staff
- The Principal
The Principal
The Principal is the school Executive Officer and is responsible for the day-to- day management of the school including educational, personnel, and administrative affairs within the policies and delegations approved by the above Boards.
The Parents' Association
The Parents' Association is regarded as a vital part of St Mark's School and for many years, the School has enjoyed the active support of its parents through the Parents' Association.
The Association raises its funds in a variety of ways, the most noteworthy being the School Fair in Term 4, with funds going toward such things as additional sports and gymnastic equipment, computers, library books, and educational aids.
Through regular social activities, the Association endeavours to maintain the friendly atmosphere that has always been a feature of St Mark's parents.
Other gatherings funded by the Parents' Association include an evening for new parents, a farewell to parents of Year 8 students at the end of the year, and a function for Year 8 held during their last week at St Mark's. Both Year 0 and Year 8 students are presented with a book at prize giving.
The Parents' Association Committee comprises:
- President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- 12 Association members - elected
- 3 Association members may be co-opted
- School Principal - ex officio
- Teachers' Representative - ex officio
A Parents' Association Committee Representative to the School Proprietors is also elected. Three members of the Association may be elected to the School Proprietors, their appointment being for a term of three years. One appointment falls vacant each year.
