"The school's intent is to provide a Christian based education in a balanced environment, where children's individual and collective needs are identified and nurtured."
ADMINISTRATION
St Mark's School is an integrated, co educational, full primary school providing education with special character as stated in the Integration agreement.
Application Forms, together with the registration fee indicated in the Fees section, are sent to the Principal, who will confirm with a receipt and procedural letter that the application has been received.
As contained in the School Integration Deed, preference of enrolment shall be given to those children whose parents have established to the satisfaction of the Proprietor, a particular or general religious or philosophical connection with the Special Character of the School.
In determining whether a child should be given preference the Proprietor may take into account the following criteria:
(a) Children of parents who are actively involved in St Mark's Church, Opawa
(b) Children with parents who are actively involved in other Churches
(c) Children with siblings who have attended or are presently attending the School
(d) Children of past pupils of the School
(e) Children who will benefit from the Special Character of the School, and whose parents have an empathy with the Character and aims of the School.
Applications for children turning five, will be received until August 31st of the year prior to the intended admission. Parents will be invited to present a submission stating their empathy with the Special Character of the School, and any preference of enrolment, which may be considered.
The Board of Proprietors will consider these applications, and successful parents will be asked to confirm their acceptance of a place by payment of the Attendance Dues for the first term of attendance. This payment will be credited to the last fee account before the student leaves St Mark's.
Parents of unsuccessful applicants will be advised and placed on a waiting list.
Five year old children who have been accepted, generally start School on the day they turn five, or the nearest school day following the birthday if it occurs in a weekend or holidays.
Applications for all classes other than New Entrants, can be considered only when a vacancy arises, and then depends on balance of numbers in each class, and further consideration of the total roll relative to projected enrolments and pupil promotions.
Presentation of a child for admission indicates that the parents or guardians undertake to abide by the rules of the School, and to be bound by the terms of the application submitted by them.
The parents or guardians agree that the child takes part in the full class programme inclusive of outside visits in school hours and class camps, and that the child will be encouraged to take an active part in the sporting, cultural, spiritual and public service groups organised within the School.
FEES
A registration fee of $25.00 (includes GST) is required to be enclosed with each Application.
Attendance Dues are currently set at $844.00 per year, payable in two six monthly instalments, due by the end of Terms 1 and 3. Dues not paid by the specified date, incur a penalty of 10%. The School Board of Proprietors at its discretion, may permit the dues to be paid by instalments.
A Building Contribution is set at $100.00 per child per year, with a maximum of $200.00 per family.
The Board of Proprietors also charges an Activities Contribution, which is currently set at $240.00 per year, which provides many of the extras not covered by Government funding. The contribution supports such activities as the swimming programme, sporting subscriptions, team requirements, gymnastics, music, drama, art, craft, school bus excursions, specialist tutors, visiting cultural groups, and educational extension programmes.
The contribution is voluntary in terms of the Education Act. However, non-payment by parents will necessitate a number of small accounts for individual activities such as those noted above, as these activities are all funded from the activities contribution. The Board receipts the activities contribution as a donation for income tax purposes.
Where Attendance Dues relating to the previous account remain unpaid at the beginning of the following term, unless prior arrangements have been made, re-admission will be at the Principal's discretion. Notice of intention to withdraw a pupil from the School must be made in writing to the Principal, one full term in advance of the withdrawal date, otherwise the next term's Attendance Dues become payable.
Children playing in a school sport team will be charged an affiliation fee per sport code, which will be shown on the stationery invoice.
School camp fees will be charged for all education outside the classroom experiences. These occur in Years 5 - 8.
